A few weeks ago we had the chance to bring our “official beer tasting elite squad” just down the street to Hardywood Park Craft Brewery. On the grounds we got a tour, saw the process of making their Singel, and more importantly, got to try some of their newest creations such as the Virginia Blackberry and the DIPA. Both of which are in stock now on our shelves.
As the weather gets warmer, we’ve got in a handful of new beers here at Ellwoods! Let these guys sit in the back of the fridge, then when the moment is right, pull ’em out for a good time. These super tasty brews won’t be around for long. Click to see what we got in…
We just got a bunch of new early spring beers in for the month of March like these delicious 22oz. servings from New Holland Brewery, Epic Brewing and LaGunitas. We’ll be keeping you updated on all of our new beers on our Facebook Page, so make sure you “Like” us for the updates!
If you’ve never had the chance to meet our assistant store manager, Todd Taylor, you’re missing out on a good time. Todd is without a doubt, a lover of beer, especially good beer. Paired with his love for hops, Todd shares a great love for the blues, music that is. Combine the two and you’ve got yourself a palate built for flavor and soul, all wrapped into one stellar guy.
If you frequent the Ellwood’s website often then you’re in for a treat. In Todd’s spare time, he loves to visit local and regional breweries and listen to blues music along the way. So whenever Todd visits a new brewery, discovers a new beer or falls in love with a new track, we’ll be posting it and keeping you updated. Why we didn’t think of this sooner, we’re not sure.
So here is the first post in a series of many. Today, Todd takes us to O’Connor Brewing Company in Norfolk, Virginia. 96 miles from our front door.
For all you beer lovers out there, we just got in one case of the very limited collaboration between Sam Adams Boston Beer Co. and Weihenstephan, the world’s oldest brewery.
Infinium is what you’d expect from a beer dressed up in a French tux – it comes in a corked 750ml bottle, it’s light gold in color, has a flavor described as “crisp and dry” (it’s brewed with champagne yeast) and will ring in with an ABV of around 10%. “Once you get past the cork, Infinium pours a clear, washed out yellow and you can immediately detect the bready aromas. A deeper sniff is still dominated by yeast and bread, but shows some spice and citrus. Flavor follows smell with a breads and yeast hitting the palate first with hints of white grape all of which feel crisp and dry. The mouthfeel and body are light from the start to the short finish, which shows a slightly salty quality. It’s a beer we’d like to try again while mingling with friends and sampling hors d’oeuvres and a cheese plate.” – BeerNews

Legend Brewing Company is Richmond’s brewing company! Brewed and bottled right on the river side, they are a commercial microbrewery providing true premium beers to many of the best pubs and restaurants in Richmond and other areas of Virginia since January, 1994. Their mission is to bring to their customers the finest and freshest brews as flavorful alternatives to mass-marketed mainstream products. They’re one of the few craft breweries in this region producing both lagers and ales, which require different yeasts and maturation conditions. All Legend beers are unpasteurized and made from only two-row and specialty barley malt, hops, water and yeast.
