The Food Standards Agency (FSA) in the United Kingdom may be about to do something that would be unthinkable in the United States—making the meat industry pay for the inspection services it needs to operate. Through next Feb. 1, FSA is seeking “consultation on proposals to charge the UK meat industry the full cost of official controls on meat.” FSA says it is “keen to hear the views” of all on its plan to make the British meat industry pay for controls on meat. The beginning of September has been a transition month for our Indulge department, where we start to move away from the effervescent, delightful Vinho Verde displays and welcome the season’s favorite: Oktoberfest beers. We had the great opportunity to sample a handful of the Oktoberfest brews that we are currently carrying in the store…and I got to say, they are really great this year.
After trying a few of them, the Ellwoods favorite for right now is the Bells Oktoberfest beer. Sipping this brew made you wish you were wearing lederhosen, sipping beer out of a stein with a crowd of people around you chanting Oktoberfest. But you shouldn’t just take our word for it!
